Have you
had a phone call from
"Windows technical department"
or similar? |
Have
you been rung
up out of the blue by somebody claiming that your computer is having
problems? These calls are always scams looking to fleece money from
you. Nobody
from any
reputable company will ever call you and ask for personal details such
as Bank account numbers etc.
Do
not give
these out! If
you have
done so, contact your Bank
immediately.
Our advice on this issue is:
- Don't
panic! If you have let someone take control of your computer, switch it
off immediately and call PCBoB
- If
you are
contacted in this way
via email or phone, please do not
provide the
caller with any information, or follow any links in the email or
download any attachments. Ignore the communication, hangup the phone,
and report the issue to ActionFraud
either via www.actionfraud.police.uk
or by phoning them on 0300 123 2040
- It
would be a sensible precaution to change any online Bank,
shopping and email passwords as soon as you can
- Most
important of all, do
please take special
care to monitor your Bank & Credit Card accounts
to look
out for any unexpected transactions, and inform your Bank immediately
if you notice anything suspicious
Please
don't
hesitate to get in touch with us
if you
have any further concerns or queries
